21 Text  Education or Professional Experience Section?  Education section if it is recent and more impressive than your professional experience  Include the highest level of education first. Include high school only if that is the highest level.

22 Text  Professional Experience  Identify relevant experience from your background.  Use bullet points.  Lead with action verbs.  Show results.  Keep points to a maximum of 2 lines.  Write in sentence fragments.  Deemphasize experience that might not be consistent with the organization’s mission. Close résumé with Education section if you did not include it before.

25 Writing a Summary  Define yourself as a professional. (Look at what you wrote on your envelope.)  Include key training, such as your participation in Public Allies program.  Include education.  Include key skills.

26 Writing Points in Professional Experience Section  What problem did you solve?  How did you solve it?  What was the result?  Example  Secured additional clients by cold calling, exceeding minimum by 5 clients/week.

27 Other Points  Date  Be consistent in spacing and all elements of format. For instance, if the date is written as “9/15” in one place, it should not be written as July 2015 in another place.  To deemphasize switching jobs within one year, use the year format only. That is, use “2014-2015” instead of “December 2014- June 2015” and “June 2015-Present.”  Quality  Proofread.  Spell check.  Use résumé paper.  Delete Extraneous Information  Objective  “Reference Available Upon Request”
