Science Project Assignment #7 Creating a Data Table
2
What is a Data Table? Organized place to write your observations and data.
3
Parts of a Data Table Title: – The title describes the variables and what is being measured. – If you are constructing a data table comparing different types of activities on heart rate, your title would read "The Effect of Different Physical Activities on Heart rate"
4
Formatting the title: – The effect of ________________________ (in- dependent variable) on _________________ (dependent variable).
5
Variables Independent Variable – The item the scientist is manipulating Dependent Variable – The item that is being measured Example: – “The Effect of Different Physical Activities on Heart rate"
6
Trials Number of times the experiment is repeated. Must have a minimum of 3 trials Must always be an odd number
7
Measuring Always use the metric system – Height or Length Centimeters Millimeters – Weight Grams Kilograms – Temperature Celsius
8
Practice 1.Independent Variable: Type of Activity a)Resting b)Running c)Weightlifting d)Walking e)Yoga 2.Dependent Variable: Heart Beats per Minute (HBpM) a)Resting: 68, 72, 70 Average: 70 b)Running: 162, 168, 174 Average: 168 c)Weightlifting: 140, 158, 151 Average: 149 d)Walking: 110, 115, 108 Average: 111 e)Yoga: 102, 94, 98 Average: 98
