Q1 Types of business organizations: a) An organization owned by one person b) A slightly larger organization, which is owned by 2 to 20 people. The owners share the profits and losses. c) An organization in which the number of shareholders (people who own shares) is limited to 50. d) An organization which has no limit to the number of shareholders. Shares are freely transferable through buying and selling in the Stock Exchange.

Q4 Draw an organization chart and explain a) The organization’s set-up, i.e the way the departments or divisions of the organization are arranged. b) The formal channels of communication and reporting, i.e who gives the orders and who takes the orders. c) The job title/ position of every staff member in the organization.

Q5 Although the organization chart may differ from organization to organization, the functions of the departments are rather similar. Work with yourself and then share with your friends which department you would like to work for, and why? [Nature of work]

Q6 FACT! Even though each department has its own functions, its work is interlinked with that of other departments. This means that departments need information from one another to carry out their duties and fulfill the organization’s goals. Can you think of other ways in which different departments are linked together? [relationships between departments]
