S6E6.a Explain the role of the sun as the major source of energy and the sun’s relationship to wind and water energy. What’s it mean? Explain that the sun is the most important source of energy. Explain how the sun is the source of energy for wind power and water power. Review Question: The energy that is released by the flow of water in a hydroelectric dam is converted energy. The energy released by the moving water was originally A. Solar energy B. Geothermal energy C. Nuclear energy D. Wind energy

S6E6.b Identify renewable and nonrenewable resources. What’s it mean?Point out which resources can be reused or can be easily replaced, and which cannot be easily reused or easily replaced. Review question: Earth provides many natural resources that humans use to live. Which of the following is a nonrenewable resource? A. waterB. windC. sunlightD. natural gas

We use many different energy sources to do work for us. They are classified into two groups— Renewable – energy sources that are easily replaced after being consumed. Nonrenewable - energy sources that are NOT as easily replaced or replenished after being used. (May take several years to replace). Energy Resources

 In the United States, most of our energy comes from nonrenewable energy sources.  Coal, natural gas, petroleum, propane, and uranium are nonrenewable energy sources.  They are used to make electricity, heat our homes, move our cars, and manufacture all kinds of products.  These energy sources are called nonrenewable because their supplies are limited. Petroleum, a fossil fuel, for example, was formed hundreds of millions of years ago from the remains of ancient sea plants and animals. We can’t make more crude oil deposits in a short time. Nonrenewable Energy Sources

 They are called renewable because they are replenished in a short time.  Some renewable energy sources include biomass, geothermal energy, hydropower, solar energy, and wind energy.  They are easily renewed because day after day, the sun shines, the wind blows, and the rivers flow.  We use renewable energy sources mainly to make electricity. Renewable Energy Sources
