1 Windgineers By: Alexis Rohrbach, Andrew Yuzhbabenko, Andrew Luksik, Ayden Cass, and John Paul (JP) Estrada (From Left to Right)

2 Description We are a team of five 5 th graders at North Landing Elementary School. We are a creative and imaginary team. Therefore, we will have a good chance of success with building our wind turbine and we might get first place. We were chosen because of our incredible mathematical ability and amazing collaboration. Our team’s name is the Windgineers.

3 Objective Our objective is to get 1 st place and win money for our school’s education. We want to create a well working wind turbine that is one of the best turbines the judges have ever seen before!

4 Inspiration Our inspiration was the idea of making our first wind turbine and presenting it to judges and collaborating more with each other and become better collaborators with one another. Another thing that inspired us was to get money for the schools education. What really inspired us to say yes to this competition though, was to have fun with each other!

5 Materials Our base is an Old Fashioned Oats container with a plastic lid to hold the PVC pipe, then 12 cups (also 6 pints, 3 quarts, and ¾ of a gallon) of Quickrete® that holds the PVC pipe, then the PVC pipe holds the rest of the wind turbine. Our blades were printed in yellow ink for more attention on from the audience to our turbine/design.

6 Research and Design We designed our blades on www.tinkercad.com. Our blades were printed on a MakerBot Replicator 3D printer. We have three blades that are 48 centimeters long. Our research took place on past winning competitors and on a website on the subject of land wind turbines. For each blade we printed on the 3D printer and it took approximately 4 hours long. Using our Kidwind pitch protractor we measured our blades to be at a 25° angle.

9 Innovation We showed innovation by making our blades better and we thought we could and make our collaboration amazing by working together. Our base is very different than all the others that our school has ever created by not using a lid that fits, but a big lid. No one has ever been this creative before! Finally, our best innovation was being more precise on this and not more precise on anything else we have ever been precise on, especially on our measurements. We used an oat meal container as our base, which we think was very innovative.
