This Lesson… This lesson we will be reading from page 16 up to 31. Discussing the characters that we have come across so far. What is our opinion of the book so far? Discuss why we think Macbeth kept seeing a dagger in front of his face? Questions on the book.

Firstly Read Pages 16- 31

Task 1 In your books write a paragraph (summary) of what has happened in the book so far? Extension Why do you think that Lady Macbeth wants Macbeth to be King?

Summary Of The Book… So far Macbeth has met three witches and they told him that he would be “Thane Of Glamis” “Thane of Cawdor” and that he would become the King. The three witches also said that Banquo’s children would become kings. When Macbeth got back, he was made Thane Of Cawdor and that is when he wrote to his wife and told her and when she was told that the King was going to their castle for dinner, she said that she was going to teach her husband how to kill him. When she saw Macbeth he asked was the room for the king ready, and she said “ready for his last night on Earth.” She then told Macbeth that she wanted him to kill Duncan and then blame it on the guards. Macbeth didn’t want to do it and Lady Macbeth persuaded him into doing it. Late that night, Macbeth walked out of their room and he saw a dagger in front of him and he thought it was only a trick of the mind. Lady Macbeth gave the two guards a sleeping potion whilst Macbeth killed Duncan. When the deed was done Macbeth went to their bedroom holding the dagger. His wife sees him with the dagger and asks why he still has them so she goes and plants the evidence on the guards and says that a little water will clear them of the deed. Macbeth went to out of his room late at night and he saw a dagger floating and when he reached out to grab it, it floated away.

Task 2 Without reading ahead in the book, what do you think will happen when people find that King Duncan is dead? Extension What would you do if you were Macbeth and you were forced to kill someone against your will?

Tuesday 30 th October 2012 Lesson Objective: To learn how to round to significant figures and how to estimate. Starter Negative Numbers Worksheet H/W Due Next Lesson! Significant Figures Worksheet.

Rounding, Significant Figures and Estimating

Rounding When rounding to a given number of decimal places, sometimes you round up and sometimes you round down. Why? For example 8.673 to 2dp becomes 8.67 56.78 to 1dp becomes 56.8 What is the rule?

When rounding the rule is: ….. 5 or more…... round up …..less than 5…… leave it as it is. For example 4.67 to 1dp becomes …….. 18.923to 2dp becomes…….. What happens when your rounding to the nearest 10, 100 or 1000? What is 267 to the nearest 10? What is 346 to the nearest 100?

The Number of significant figures tells us how approximate we are allowed to be For example 2377 to 1 significant figure is 2000 2377 to 2 significant figures is 2400 2377 to 3 significant figures is 2380 How does it work?

The number of significant figures tells us how many numbers other than zero we are allowed to have. Every thing else must be replaced with a zero For example 5940 to 2sf becomes? 5900 What is it to 1sf?

Exercise 2 Round the numbers to the given number of significant figures 1.4570 1sf 2.26511sf 3.34572sf 4.172382sf 5.9991sf 6.123962sf 7.72773sf 8.234.71sf 9.19.451sf 10.0.002351sf Exercise 1 Round the numbers to the given number of decimal places or the nearest 10, 100 or thousand 1.1.92 1dp 2.21.2572dp 3.49.4562dp 4.1.5796 3dp 5.0.2952dp 6.679 100 7.29 100 8.555 10 9.555 1000 10.8.97 10
