2 What is a scale model?

3 A scale model is a two or three dimensional replica in which each element is shown in correct proportion. A scale factor involves reducing all measurements by the same amount in order to achieve the measurement of the scale model.

4 How was our scale model of the solar system similar to the actual solar system?

5 It is similar because: - the planets were in the correct order -their sizes were proportional. -the planets are in the same plane.

6 How was our scale model different?

7 It is different because: -the actual sizes and distances of the planets have been reduced by a scale factor. -the appearance of the model planets does not resemble the appearance of the planets. -the planets in the real solar system are not in a straight line.

8 What are terrestrial and gaseous planets?

9 Terrestrial planets are closest to the sun: Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars. They are small, rocky, with little or no atmosphere. The distances of the first four planets are relatively close to one another

10 Gaseous planets include: Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune They are large gaseous bodies with small, rocky or metallic cores. The distances between these planets are much greater than with the first four planets.

12 -craters are the most widespread geological feature in the solar system. - they are large, bowl-shaped holes found in the solid, rocky surfaces of the terrestrial planets and their moons of gaseous planets.

14 They are formed when large meteoroids, asteroids, and comets smash into the surface of a planet, moon, or asteroid.
