2 Introduction  The Compensation Review communications are intended to reach all current and former mineworkers, employees of the works industry, their families and communities; and to get the buy-in and co-operation of Employers, Trade Unions and Ex Mineworkers’ Structures regarding compensation.

3 Objectives  To provide timely and accurate information to all identified stakeholders about the ongoing process;  To communicate solutions to challenges that current and former workers face with the compensation systems;  To inform the public (in South Africa and relevant SADC states) about the work being done and educate them about the outcomes of the process.

5 Stakeholders 2) Secondary stakeholders  Chamber of Mines  Mining companies  Organised Labour movement/ unions  Ex-mineworkers structures  Rand mutual  Teba  Financial and Legal institutions  SASSA

6 Target Audience  Current and former mineworkers, employees of the works industry and their families;  Peri-mining communities;  Traditional Leaders;  Municipalities;  Government departments

7 Key messages  Why the review process is underway  Because all employees deserve access to comprehensive benefits  Because the systems need to be unified and made more efficient  What we want to achieve  Accessible and efficient specialized Occupational health services;  Ensuring appropriate and equal benefits;  Ensuring the alignment of all compensation systems to ensure efficiency;  Ensuring fair distribution of resources;

8 Key messengers (1)  The following are proposed as key messengers  Primary Messengers  Minister Motsoaledi (Department of Health);  Minister Mildred Oliphant (Department of Labour);  Deputy Minister Godfrey Oliphant (Department of Mineral Resources);  Deputy Minister Inkosi Patekile Holomisa (Department of Labour);  Deputy Minister Joe Phaahla (Department of Health).

13 Implementation Plan  Implementation plan being developed – includes  Timing  Costing  Content

14 Monitoring and Evaluation  Communication task team will continue to monitor the progress of the plan on weekly basis through the media coverage and other means of communication channels.  Communication Strategy will be monitored in phases
