2 ACNC OBJECTIVES Objects under the ACNC Act Maintain, protect and enhance public trust and confidence in the NFP sector Support a sustainable, robust, vibrant, independent and innovative NFP sector Contribute to red tape reduction

3 ACNC – HERE TO STAY The Government announced on Friday 4 March 2016 the decision to retain the Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission.

4 WHAT DOES THE ACNC DO? Registers charities Provides guidance and advice Requires charities to report yearly using the Annual Information Statement Maintains the ACNC Charity Register Takes compliance action where required Provides information to the ATO about charity entitlement to tax concessions Works across jurisdictions to develop a simplified reporting framework - report once use often via the Charity Passport

8 SNAPSHOT OF ACNC OUTCOMES 99% charities engage with ACNC online through the Charity Portal or the bulk lodgement process 1.6M+ visits to the Charity Register 14,500+ removed from register – 4,000 voluntarily 22 charities revoked following compliance investigations 94% customer satisfaction with registration process “One stop shop” - charities to report & publish information automatically to the Register - all charities have visibility to donors irrespective of their size.

13 TAKE THE CHARITY HEALTH CHECK Take the health check to make sure you’re up to date and meeting your main ACNC obligations. ACNC.gov.au/healthcheck

14 NOTIFYING OF CHANGES Charities must tell us if there is a change to their charity’s: name address for service – important to keep this up to date! board members governing documents Make changes via the Charity Portal > charity.acnc.gov.au

15 15 WHEN WILL ACNC REVOKE REGISTRATION? The Commissioner can revoke if: –Not entitled to registration – not a charity –False information provided –Non compliance with Act/regulations –Failure to lodge Annual Information Statement – double defaulter –Bankruptcy/Liquidation –Charity requested voluntary revocation Revocation of ACNC registration = Loss of entitlement to Cth tax concessions with ATO

16 16 WHEN IS MY ANNUAL INFORMATION STATEMENT DUE? There are two main reporting deadlines 31 December (extended to 31 January) each year for those reporting to a 30 June financial year end date 30 June each year for those using a 31 December financial year end date Check your Register entry under “Annual Reporting” to see your charity’s due date > acnc.gov.au/findacharity
