Monday 8/24 But before that… Lets make Name tags! While I am discussing policies begin working on your nametag with the cardstock in front of your desk. Make them as elaborate as possible: put your name and a picture that best represents you. Example: If you love the Lord of the Rings you can draw a ring next to your name Use what supplies you have brought, I also have supplies that can be used.

Monday 8/24 Activity! Peer up with a partner! Preferably someone that you don’t know. On a sheet of paper each individual must answer these three questions. 1.) What are some of your hobbies and interests? Why do you fancy them? 2.) What are your goals for High school? After? How do you plan on achieving these goals? 3.) What is one thing that nobody knows about you? Share your answers with your partner! You will then give a short presentation in front of the class highlighting the answers your partner gave to each question. Tuesday 8/25 Two Voice Poem Creation 1. Take out a pencil and paper (each) 2. Create a 3 column chart on your papers and label the columns ME, BOTH, Other’s Name 3. Trade Is and “Who I Am” pages; read about each other 4. Together, create your own Two Voice Poem Take turns speaking & have choral statements Have a minimum of 30 lines Practice saying your poem aloud

Wednesday 8/26 Bell work!!! Sit in your seats quietly, pull out a sheet of paper, or write in your composition notebook. Place your name. date and period in the upper right corner In 3-5 sentences why do you believe respect is important in Mr. Spellman’s class? What do you like/and or dislike about the classroom technology policy? (3-5 sentences) In general, tell me why it is important to be prepared and ready to learn each day. (2-5 sentences)

Wednesday 8/26 Two Voice Poems! 1. Together, practice your Two Voice Poems 1. Take turns speaking 2. Have choral statements 3. Have a minimum of 30 lines 4. Speak Clearly 2. We will begin performances in 15 minutes

Two voice Poem Audience must have a sheet of paper out. Put your name date and class period in the top right corner, remember fresh sheet of paper! Title paper TVP Listening activity You will write notes on each performance! This is an assignment. Do it!

Questions How does John Legend’s and Sam Smith’s duet relate to two person poetry? (2-4 sentences) With the video and the lyrics that are heard, what story are they trying to tell? Do they effectively convey their message? (5-8 sentences) HINTS!!!!!!!! 1.) first remember to rephrase the question in your answers 2.) state your opinion? What do you believe the answer is? 3.) then pull from the text (videos we saw today, and yesterday), support your answer with what is there. Example (Sam smith said this… John Legend said this… in the video we saw images of this…) 4.) finally conclude. (briefly go over what you already said, and then state your answer)

Reflection Homework: 1. On page 6 of your ISN write a 1 page essay-style reflection on your Two Voice Poem. Consider: How do you feel about your TVP? What parts of it do you particularly like? Why? What was especially satisfying to you about either the process or the finished product? What did you learn about yourself as you worked on this project? If you were the teacher, how would you grade your work and what grade would you give it? Explain. If given the opportunity, what would you improve?
