COLLEGE OF ARTS & SCIENCES UNIVERSITI UTARA MALAYSIA COURSE: Research methodology (SZRZ6014) PREPARE FOR: Dr. Farzana Binti Kabir Ahmad PREPARED BY: Kuboye John Olusola MATRIC NUMBER: (95332). ASSIGNMENT 1 TOPIC: ANALYSIS OF SUBSTANCE ABUSE AMONG CHILDREN. (Analysis of alcohol abuse among male Nigeria children)

Introduction Definition: substance abuse can be defined as a harmful use of any substance for the purpose of mood alteration which can be resulted to frequent and severe problems. This can also be referred to an excessive use of a substance. Below are the following types of a substance: Alcohol, Drug, Cocaine, Heroin, Marijuana, Tobacco, Methamphetamine e. t. c.

In this paper i shall narrow my knowledge to alcohol as one of the types of substance and critically look at the abuse of alcohol among the Nigeria male children. Alcohol abuse is sometimes referred to by the less specific term Alcoholism. This is generally used to mean the uncontrolled utilization or consumption of alcoholic beverages commonly detrimental to the health of drinkers.

Abuse of alcohol is also an excessive use of alcohol which may cause physical damage and also jeopardizing the safety of the children. Consumption of alcohol has been in existence for thousands of years in which it is viewed as the most commonly used and abused substance in the global world today usually in the midst of the teenagers. So the analysis of alcohol abuse will only be limited to the male Nigerian children in this study.

Problem Statement The most prevalent physical effect of alcohol abuse has on children especially male is the possibility of the damage of brain permanently, the brain is still in the process of developing during the years of adolescent. Revealing or exposing it to alcohol can arrest its development, which can result to cognitive destruction and disorders in learning.

The substance also brings about increment in stomach acid production which can be resulted to heart bum and ulcers. Male children with problems of drinking alcohol frequently don’t complete as many years of education as male children who hates to drink. Memory problems connected to damage of brain from abuse of alcohol can seriously affect the ability of children to perform excellently on tests and succeed in environmental work.

Children with abuse of alcohol frequently perform badly in their overall in school when compared to children who hates to drink alcohol. In addition to diseases which are chronic that affects drinkers after many years of serious use, alcohol contributes to serious traumatic outcomes that disable or kill one at a relatively youthful age, leading to the loss of many years of life to disability or death.

It is also estimated to have caused 20-30% worldwide diseases such as esophageal cancer, homicide, pancreatitis, heart disease, malnourishment, liver cancer and motor accidents. For these reasons, I'm motivated by all these implications to carry out a clear investigation of the main causes in terms of mental, physical, social and academic effect of alcohol usage among the male Nigerian children.

Significance of study The outcome of this research paper will be useful to the Federal Republic of Nigeria, makers of policy, the entire students, and the State government as it could also smooth the progress of understanding of Nigeria children especially the male children reasons or sources of disagreement, academics poor performance as well as reduction of deleterious accidental event which may occur from the abused and usage of alcohol.
