2 What is a Performance Evaluation It is NOT Criticism It is information that one person offers to another regarding their view of a person’s approach, delivery or impact; as measured against certain standards. The raters perception/assessment

4 What if it is YOU… Have you ever heard yourself say any of these? My manager does not talk to me My manager does not like me. They have it in for me. My manager does not spend enough time with me to know my work My manager interferes too much My manager is too direct I do not trust my manager It's Not My Fault! I did not get any training It is not my job No one told me what to do

5 What if you have difficulty receiving feedback You have the urge to rationalize, since the feedback can feel uncomfortable. You believe that your self-worth is diminished by suggestions for improvement. You had previous experiences in which feedback was unhelpful or unjustified. What if it is YOU…

9 What you can do before the Performance Evaluation Check your attitude Change how you show up Take positive steps to influence the rater favorably

10 Prepare for Crucial Conversations Be prepared.  Don’t be a victim to “what comes up, comes out” conversations a crucial conversation is a dialogue

11 Be Personally Accountable Stop being a victim – move away from a mindset where things happen "to you" “Accountability starts with me” vs. “Accountability starts with you”

12 What do I do to ensure I am Personally Accountable? Check your attitude. Be aware - recognize when personal accountability is lacking in your life. Be wise - listen to feedback openly. Seek feedback. Be brave - Act on the feedback you receive. Say "Okay, I will not depend on others. I'll do what it takes to change and improve my own life."

13 Being Successful  The process of becoming/staying successful has 3 important ingredients:  Preparation  Opportunity  Attitude

16 Make a commitment to personal development, education, and training. Seek a mentor (be an active protégée) Prepare an IDP Give key individuals “permission” to give you on-going feedback
