6. Outdoor Movie Night: DES PIE (Partners in Education) will be sponsoring our first event of the season: Outdoor Movie Night Friday, September 9th. A huge inflatable screen will be blown up on the front lawn of DES. The movie, Angry Birds will begin at about 8:00. Gates open at 7:00. Snack Concessions will be available.

7. 1 st Grade Music The music program is using a curriculum called Quaver. With this new curriculum comes an online resource/activity center. Be sure to check out Mrs. Sanderson’s website for videos, games and the link and code to Quaver Music. Mrs. Sanderson's Music Website

8. Phy.Ed. Please make sure your child wears their tennis shoes on Phy. Ed. It is school policy that all children wear shoes with a back for safety on the playground and in the hallways. Even though the weather will be warm, please leave the flip flops at home!

9. Volunteers I will be setting up our volunteer schedule at the end of September. If you are interested in volunteering, please make sure you have turned in the Volunteer Paperwork and watched the Volunteer Video online. This needs to be done every year. Thanks for your support!

11. September We will celebrate your child’s birthday here at school If you decide to send store bought treats or goodies please send 25 of them. If it's a weekend day we will celebrate the Friday before or Monday after. We will also celebrate ½ birthdays. If this doesn’t work for you we can celebrate it in May. 16. Homework We will plan to start spelling, math, and reading book bag homework the week of September 12 th : I would encourage you to continue to read to your child and with your child this week!

17. Word of the Week Extra: Each week, your child can receive a sticker for their sticker book by writing down our special word/phrase of the week along with a parent signature. This word helps me to know that you have seen the newsletter! They love stickers! Word of the week: Back to School
