12 Excellence Question: Explain in detail, how the muscles work together to control the movement of the left hip.

13 The movement at the left hip is hip flexion. The muscles that work together to control this movement is the Iliopsoas and Gluteus maximus. To perform hip flexion, the agonist muscle is the Ilipsoas. This muscle shortens and contracts. The Gluteus maximus is the antagonist and must relax and lengthen. The allows the angle between the pelvis and the femur to decrease. The hip is a ball and socket joint so it can flex, extend, abduct and adduct. The stronger the contraction, the faster hip flexion can occur. Checklist: Movement identified Correct muscles named Agonist correct and term is described Antagonist correct and term is described Bones involved named and movement described Joint type identified
