1. Manningham Neighbourhood Watch Safety and Security for Senior Citizens Program Supporters: Victoria Police Manningham Community Health Manningham City Council This project has been funded as part of the Victorian Government's Community Crime Prevention Program

2. Reasons for the Program At the request of the Manningham Police, NHW undertook the program to address the perceptions of some senior citizens that there was a high level of crime in the municipality. Publicity in the media of violent crimes generally, can lead some residents, particularly older citizens, to believe that Manningham is an unsafe place. The program was aimed at putting these incidents into perspective and to show that our municipality is in fact quite a safe place to live. The opportunity was also taken to refresh the audience's knowledge of basic home security and crime prevention techniques.

Home and Vehicle Security - simple tips to combat crime at home and when using your car Preventing and Reporting Crime - reporting suspicious activity and avoiding putting yourself in a vulnerable situation Getting Out and About - taking care when you are travelling in the community Safety in the Home - operating within your physical limits and reducing hazards in the home Supporting NHW - what you can do to support NHW and its programs Safety and Security for Senior Citizens

Progress to Date There have been presentations to 23 seniors’ groups so far The attendance at the individual presentations has ranged from 10 to 240 people The total attendance from all the sessions is 1,125 people Three of the presentations have involved the use of interpreters We have one more booking for a presentation Although the official project completion date was 31 May 2015, we will continue making the presentations whilst there is a demand Safety and Security for Senior Citizens
