3 Comma Rule #1 (if needed Lang. p. 336) Use commas with items in a series of three or more. Examples: Words in a series: Mrs. Young’s favorite sports are volleyball, football, and fast-pitch softball. Phrases in a series: -There were fingerprints at the top, on the sides, and on the bottom. Prep. Phrases - To pitch in a Word Series game, to practice medicine, and to run for mayor are all things I hope to do someday. Infinitive Phrases (to + verb) Clauses in a series: We sang, we danced, and we played trivia games.

4 Comma Rule #1 continued… Things to remember: Make sure you put a comma before the conjunction too! Practice p. 337 Exercise 3 #1-10 ODD Write the words before each missing comma and add the comma. If it is correct already, write C.

5 Comma Rule #2 Compound Sentences-- Use commas with conjunctions (FANBOYS) to join two simple sentences. Conjunctions: AKA- FANBOYS For And Nor But Or Yet So

6 Comma Rule #2 continued… Things to remember: You put the comma before the FANBOY! (,Conjunction) You MUST have a simple sentence on one side of the,conjunction and another simple sentence on the other! Example: Mrs. Young read the book, but Ms. West watched the movie.

7 Be Careful! Compound sentences must have… Formula of  simple,C simple Practice: 1.Mary worked hard and learned. 2.Joe sang the song but he worked too.

9 Practice: Lang. p. 340 Exercise 4 #1-10 If Compound, write the words before the missing comma and add the comma. –Ex. mom, and If NOT COMPOUND, remove the comma by writing the words before and after the comma and Omit it. –Ex. mom and If the sentence is correct, write C.
