2 2 Why are AWARDS so important to SWE? RECOGNITION Externally – supporters of the mission Internally – acknowledge members’ contributions Increases Membership – Awards are a large reason why many people are in SWE and also why they remain active. SWE FY12 Goal Objective 2.4: Increase recognition of SWE members as influential and sought-after leaders as measured by the number of members participating in prestigious and influential positions, including committees and advisory boards inside and outside of SWE. FY12 Goal 2.2: Make recommendations to increase recognition of women engineers for prestigious SWE and external awards.

Feedback, from students, is that it is a lot of work to submit for one of these awards. Recommending re-wording to take place for FY13. Entrepreneur Award Feedback is that this packet is vague and unclear. Recommendation to review and revamp award packet Recommending re-wording to take place for FY13. Implement scholarships and awards to Pre-SWE (Junior SWE or JSWE, possible suggested names) young women. This could be implemented once/if Pre-SWE clubs are kicked off in schools. Timing pending. Review how Awards are marketed. For example, some awards packets get zero applicants and others get numerous. Timing TBD.

13 13 Recommendations – Communications Award - Phase II Current 3 Awards Newsletter, Website, and Public Relations Recommendations Sunset categories. One Communication award. Professional Development Media Award is sunsetted and included in this Communications Award. Recommendations 3 Options Leave categories as they are. Add other categories, so they are not so weighted (Product Research, Design & Engineering is always heavy in applicants). Sunset categories and award 10. Awards Packet would need to be adjusted since right now there are categories. Next Steps BOD and Awards Committee to decide which option is best. Awards Committee will need to re-vamp packet, if option 2 or 3 is chosen. Implement FY12. Recommendations to Awards Committee by Dec 1. Implemented by Awards Committee by Jan 1.

Beginning of Criteria Development: Must demonstrate exceptional leadership and a pioneering spirit in her technical field. Must demonstrate work that has increased the number of women in engineering and technology. Must demonstrate a high level of achievement in technology, 15-20 years experience.
