7 Component 1: Provision of Equipment and Computer Labs to Public Schools ActivitiesState of Activity and Achievements Develop an ICT action plan based on MEHE’s National ICT in Learning Strategy – to guide the deployment of ICT to the entire public school system Completed Action Plan Submitted to MEHE Develop ICT Teacher training modules and pilot them in with CERD trainers Completed 5 Modules developed (subject areas Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, English) 60 DOPS and CERD trainers and counselors trained Roll out ICT integration training to School teachersCompleted 400 teachers trained by CERD Trainers Development of e-portal for trainers Completed Procurement of ICT Equipment to 126 pubic Secondary schools and 6 CERD Centers Completed Phase 1: 126 Secondary schools received ICT equipment Second Round of Procurement is on-going

10 Component 3: School Leadership Development with Parents and Community Involvement ActivitiesState of Activity and Achievements Leadership Development Program Deliver Leadership Development Program to 500 school principals Completed 500 school principals trained Develop an e-portal for the Principals for exchange of ideas and experience Completed E-portal developed and handed over to Lebanese University School Improvement Program Train and coach school teams on the development and implementation of a School Improvement Program Completed 192 school teams trained, total of 526 school staff trained Provide the schools with up to $4,000 per school to implement the school improvement projects Completed 191 Schools received the full in-kind grants

11 Major Challenges MEHE is under resourced both at the human level and the material level; this negatively impacts ownership and sustainability Projects are designed at the executive levels and tend to lack internal consent of MEHE stakeholders; again negatively impacting ownership Donors, implementers and beneficiaries lack a common vision and perception; this negatively impacts efficiency Political circumstances and security situation tend to have a huge negative impact

12 QUESTIONS What are development projects missing? why is impact not equal to effort and funds invested? What role is there for the academic community to ensure better impact and higher levels of sustainability? Other questions ?????
