Common Core Standards 2. Political Beliefs and Behaviors 2.1 Students will explain that citizens hold a variety of beliefs about politics, government leaders, their states and the United States political system by utilizing one of the big 11 social studies skills. 2.2 Students will understand the importance of public opinion by utilizing one of the big 11 social studies skills. 2.3 Students will describe how beliefs are formed, the processes by which they are transmitted, and how they evolved by utilizing one of the big 11 social studies skills. 2.4 Students will discuss the role played by families, the media, and the education system in an individual’s political socialization through analysis of messages in the media to detect propaganda and bias by utilizing one of the big 11 social studies skills. 2.5 Students will be able to compare and contrast various forms of political participation, including traditional voting behavior by utilizing one of the big 11 social studies skills. 2.6 Students will analyze and discuss United States demographic characteristics when evaluating political behavior by utilizing one of the big 11 social studies skills.
