Unit 8 Solving Inequalities Essential Question: How can you use inequalities to solve real world problems?

Do Now Write an inequality for each: – I need at least $50 to buy dinner – I can bring at most 40 people to the basketball game – There is a minimum of 2 players on the basketball court

Graphing Inequalities Open circle on the number line is used for > or < Closed Circle on the number line is used for ≤, or ≥ When you graph you must circle the number that is your answer Then you must draw an arrow in the direction of your inequality (less than goes to the left and Greater than goes to the right)

Example 1 Graph the following inequality y < 6 Open or Closed Circle? Draw a number line Find the number on the line Which direction does the arrow go

Example 2 Graph the following inequality B ≥ 12 Open or Closed Circle? Draw a number line Find the number on the line Which direction does the arrow go

Example 3 Graph the following inequality a ≤ - 5 Open or Closed Circle? Draw a number line Find the number on the line Which direction does the arrow go

On your Own Graph the inequality C > 6f < 7 D ≥ -7 Y ≤ - 5
