4 Let’s get startedLet’s get started  Nelson Mandela- Go through and highlight: Names, Dates, Significant Events  Focus: How did Mandela’s childhood contribute to his leadership and political uprising?

5 Collecting Important Information!  Let’s see how effective your highlighting is!  With your seat partner, locate information from your text (hopefully highlighted).  Fill out your handout!  Anything “directly quoted” or facts that you put into your own words (paraphrased) must have a page number!

Left Side:  Please write down the title/author from the autobiography: A Long Walk to Freedom: A Country Childhood by Nelson Mandela  Select two quotes from your list that portray evidence that Mandela’s leadership was inspired by his childhood. Please copy them down on the left side and always include citations : (Mandela 12).

9 “The Struggle is My Life”“The Struggle is My Life”  Details the main trajectory of Mandela’s overcoming Apartheid  In groups, read aloud while highlighting essential information  Individually, go back to paraphrase your section.  Then share: What is your section about? What do others need to know about your section? This is what your focus should be.
