4 Dictionary definitions: Conflict = to come into collision or disagreement; be contradictory, at variance, or in opposition; clash. War = a conflict carried on by force of arms, as between nations or between parties within a nation; warfare, as by land, sea, or air. 1.Write down the above 2.Create some images to represent each term. 3.Give some examples of conflicts and wars next to your definition. 4.Give your opinion on conflicts and war – how could we prevent them?

5 What causes Wars? 1.On your post it, write down at least two reasons why people might go to war 2.Stick onto your desk 3.30 second rotation to read each table’s ideas 4.Make notes in books using everyone’s examples

6 So what are the causes? 1.To defend their country from attack 2.Defend beliefs, religion, freedom 3.Defend an ally or protect weak 4.Remove a leader 5.Gain more land 6.Gain wealth, power or resources 7.To stop genocide (mass murder) TASK OPTIONS: 1.Create pictures to represent each of the causes of war and label 2.Create a mind map including all of the causes listed in purple. Extension: which reasons for going to war do you most agree with and why? 3.Explain in a speech which of the causes of war you believe to better reasons than others to go to war. Give reasons to support. 4.Using the books, research a historical war and create a flow diagram with its causes.
