1. OUTDOOR WARNING SIREN SYSTEM The Village of Itasca has a local outdoor warning siren system. This system is utilized to warn area residents who are outdoors of pending danger. Types of pending danger may include:  An actual attack or detected missile launch against the United States of America.  An immediate public alert to any peace time emergency including, but not limited to weather emergencies.

2. SYSTEM TESTS  Testing is done on the first Tuesday of every month at 10:00 am.  During disaster training exercises that are specifically and expressly approved in advance by the Illinois Emergency Service and Disaster Agency. TEST PROCEDURES:  The “ATTENTION” or “ALERT” signal shall be sounded for (1) minute.  This test signal pattern is different than the actual emergency signal.

3. The Itasca Police Department Communications Center will activate the outdoor warning sirens. The sirens will activate steadily for a duration of 3 minutes. THIS IS THE SIREN TYPE USED IN A WEATHER EMERGENCY. In the event that a severe weather system is approaching the village of Itasca, and the National Weather Service radar indicates cloud rotation or a confirmed tornado, the outdoor warning sirens will be activated.

4. In the event that the emergency outdoor sirens are activated, you should seek shelter immediately and monitor local radio and/or television stations for weather information. You should not call the Itasca Police or Fire Departments during this time to inquire as to why the sirens are activating. This will be a very busy time and communications personnel will be handling incoming emergency calls. Your call may be placed on hold, which could delay you from obtaining the necessary shelter to protect yourself and family members.

5. The issuance of an “ALL CLEAR” weather statement shall not be issued by the Itasca Police Department. Residents requesting all clear confirmation shall again be advised to monitor commercial radio and television for further weather information. 6. SIREN LOCATIONS IN THE VILLAGE OF ITASCA: Ardmore Avenue @ Baker Drive Village water tower on Prospect Avenue north of Thorndale Avenue. Oak Street @ Lombard Road Also be aware that surrounding towns: Addison, Elk Grove Village, Roselle and Wood Dale will also be activating their outdoor warning sirens during weather emergencies.
