Portable Data for Imaging Testing and Demonstration Process WELCOME Chris Carr Radiological Society of North America Director of Informatics - Staff Liaison to IHE

August 11, 2004IHE PDI Demo1 Purpose of this Conference Introduce and organize participants in IHE Portable Data for Imaging testing and demonstration process Outline plans for this process Establish next steps for participants

August 11, 2004IHE PDI Demo2 Presentations Welcome/Introduction – Chris Carr Testing Process – Steve Moore Demonstration Plans – Chris Carr

August 11, 2004IHE PDI Demo3 What is IHE? Integrating the Healthcare Enterprise: – an initiative by healthcare professionals and industry to improve the way computer systems in healthcare share information – promotes the coordinated use of established standards such as DICOM and HL7 to address specific clinical needs – leads to systems that communicate better, are easier to implement, and enable care providers to use information more effectively

August 11, 2004IHE PDI Demo4 IHE Process Users identify desired functionalities that require coordination and communication among multiple systems – E.g., departmental workflow, single sign-on, exchangeable media Find and document standards-based transactions among systems to achieve desired functionality – Apply necessary constraints to eliminate useless variability Provide process and tools to encourage vendors to implement – MESA software test tools – Connectathon interoperability testing event Provide tools and education to help users acquire and integrate systems using these solutions – Connectathon results and public demonstrations – Integration statements – Implementation handbook/RFP toolkit (coming)

August 11, 2004IHE PDI Demo5 IHE Participants Societies Representing Healthcare Segments – RSNA, HIMSS, ACC, ACCE, … Users – Clinicians, Medical Staff, Administrators, CIOs, … Consultants Information Systems Vendors Imaging Systems Vendors Standards Development Organizations (SDOs) – DICOM, HL7, ASTM, …

August 11, 2004IHE PDI Demo12 Portable Data for Imaging IP The Portable Data for Imaging Integration Profile specifies actors and transactions that allow users to distribute imaging related information on interchange media. The intent of this profile is to provide the reliable interchange of evidence objects and diagnostic reports for import, display or print by a receiving actor. A single physical transport means is specified that supports the multiple usage scenarios described in this profile. The CD format was chosen for supporting the described use cases.

August 11, 2004IHE PDI Demo13 Portable Data for Imaging IP Portable Media Creator – assembles the content of the media and writes it to the physical medium. Portable Media Importer – reads the DICOM information (DICOM FSR) contained on the media. This system provides the user the ability to select a set of DICOM instances and reconcile key patient and study attributes (when necessary) to facilitate inclusion of the imported data in the local information system(s). Display – view "web-viewable" diagnostics and therapeutic imaging information on interchange media.

August 11, 2004IHE PDI Demo14 PDI Demo Participants 22 companies 21 media creators 18 media importers 17 image displays 8 report readers 7 displays (ITI) 7 print composers
