Student Access  Students complete the preliminary profile (fill in ALL double (**) and single (*) asterisks).  Once this is complete, the students then receive an email to verify their profile and create a password 5

This is where you will go to start, or continue, to work on your student profile.

. As you move through the application, the dashboard on the main page will indicate the percentage completed. This page will also show the status of your financial, transcript, recommendation, and consent information.

IMPORTANT!! You MUST fill out ALL double (**) and single (*) asterisk questions to get 100% on your dashboard. Next to each category, it will show ‘green’ if all info is completed. It will show ‘yellow’ if partially completed. It will show ‘red’ if not started. NOTE: The ONLY category that it is okay to not have green is “References/Transcripts”(the transcript is mandatory, but the reference is not required).

‘Additional Info’ page: choose ‘some high school’ for highest level of education completed. Additional Info

If you qualify for free/reduced lunch, please select ‘yes.’ This will help qualify you for scholarships based on financial need.

Schools You must be a current senior in high school to apply for scholarships. There are scholarships that are keyed to a particular college or major. Be accurate and thorough to give yourself the most opportunities.

GPA Choose: ‘My school does not calculate GPA on a 4.0 scale’ Choose: ‘I have high school GPA information only’ You ONLY fill in your cumulative HS GPA (not individual grade levels). Use the conversion chart that pops up to input a GPA out of 4.0.) Seniors can access their current GPA on their transcripts which are mailed home in October. (Student transcript information may also be available via Naviance.)

Class Rank For this section: 1.Yes, VHS does rank students 2. VHS uses the “integer system” 3.Your class rank is a numerical number 1 through 366 (available on transcript/Naviance) 4. As of 10/26, Your current 2016 graduating class size is 366 Your transcript or naviance will have your class rank.

Test Scores For test scores, be sure to put in your SAT or ACT scores and any AP scores. Those scores are calculated into your overall application score.

Activities For activities, put in all possible activities you are involved in. This helps you earn points on your application. Be sure to limit entries to your high school years. Community service is a large factor in many of the scholarships offered. List ANY and ALL you have participated in. NOTE: KEY CLUB is a community service club –Key Club participation and any specific activities should be marked as ‘community service.’ Any community service activities through your church should also be categorized as ‘community service.’ At the bottom of each activity entry, you can include any honors such as captain, leadership role, or awards.

Activities Make sure you have indicated that you have entered all of your activities in order for the left side bar to turn green.

If you don’t have any information to add to any of those categories, click ‘I have entered all my additional information.’ Otherwise, the category will remain incomplete. Continue with the same process for the next 3 categories (awards, employment, documents). Be sure to limit entries to your high school years.

Parent/Guardian Information If you are under the age of 18 at the time you fill out the application, you MUST receive permission from your parent/guardian. Fill out the parent/guardian information and click ‘request consent from parent/guardian.’ If you are already 18 years old, the application will recognize this and you will not have to get parent/guardian permission.

Parent/Guardian Information Your parent/guardian will receive an email from Scholarship America. They will have to click on the link provided to fill in financial information. (Instructions are included in the email email and slides 28-33 in this power point) NOTE: The dashboard page will indicate when the parent information has been requested and when it has been completed.

Financial Info VHS will no longer require parents to put in financial information. NOTE: Some scholarship opportunities outside of VHS, through Scholarship America, may require financial information. However, most require a FAFSA number. Once you acquire that number (after taxes), you can choose to go back into your profile and add it.

Financial Info Click ‘I do not wish to include financial information.’ The dashboard bar will then turn green. Click here

Essays 22 VHS Dollars for Scholars DOES require students to submit a ‘Goals and Aspirations’ essay to be eligible for scholarships. The “unusual circumstances” essay should be completed by students who persevered through a difficult time, and will be considered for hardship cases. Examples might include divorce, moving from a different town/country, health issues/medical conditions, death in the family, etc.

Transcripts and References 23 For your transcript, click ‘add counselor/registrar information.’ **The Counselor e-mail you need to upload your transcript is: Ms. Joanne Thomas thomasj@victorschools.org NOT your personal counselor Once Ms. Thomas’ info is submitted, you must click on the ‘save and request transcript info' button to send a transcript request. Transcripts ARE mandatory

Transcripts and References 24 Despite the instructions on the page, VHS students DO NOT need a reference for Victor scholarships NOTE: By not requesting a reference, the dashboard will not be 100% and the bar for references/transcripts will remain yellow. That is okay, you can still qualify for VHS scholarships.

So I filled out all sections of my application. Am I finally done with the application process? ….. NO

On the login page, under ‘My Scholarships,’ select ‘Click Here’ to view any and all scholarships you qualify for. NOTE: Please realize that scholarships may show up at a later date, so consistently check back.

Based on scholarships you potentially qualify for, you may have to answer a variety of custom eligibility questions. Eligibility will depend on your answers – be sure to answer them accurately and honestly.

Upon completion of any custom eligibility questions, you MUST click ‘SUBMIT APP’ for EVERY scholarship you want to qualify for For a few of the scholarships, an additional essay may be required if that button is not grayed out.

You will then see a list of scholarships under ‘submitted applications.’ The committee will review all eligible applications in the spring and you will be notified by late April if you have won a scholarship.

PARENT INSTRUCTIONS

Parent Instructions If your child is under the age of 18 when filling out the application, you must give consent. Have your child follow the instructions on slide #18 and you will then receive an email which details instructions for you.

Granting Consent Once you receive an email from Scholarship America, follow the link, sign in, and the following screen should appear. Click ‘complete permission and/or financial information’ (even if you are not doing financial info). NOTE: When you initially log in, even if you are new, just click ‘forgot password.’ It will send you an email to ‘reset’ your password. Not sure why it doesn’t have a spot for new users.

Granting Consent Click ‘grant consent’ button.
