M Series Product Training 2013.04 COMPANY CONFIDENTIAL P3 Many non-headphone/hi-fi brands are now offering products but they generally have the following downsides: Disappointing and generic sound quality: Most products utilize generic drive units and not much emphasis is put on the sound quality or aligning the sound signature to their brands’ speaker offerings. Non-durable: Many products are made of plastic or with limited metal parts and have non-protective casing, which make them highly susceptible to damage, especially during travel. Discomfort after prolonged listening: Many products are not ergonomically designed. This causes discomfort and fatigue. Major downsides with on-market products

M Series Product Training 2013.04 COMPANY CONFIDENTIAL P5 Sound by KEF Our UK acoustics engineers are highly involved in the development of the headphones and have played an instrumental part in the tuning of the products to ensure that the sound signature is representative of what KEF stands for. They also researched the use of different materials to be used on the product and within the acoustics chamber to help deliver a product of superior quality.

Light weight for full metal frame PU leather is breathable and sweat resistant. Good clamping force. Sheep leather is NOT as breathable so consumers’ ears get hot over time. Sheep leather discolour with sweat. Light weight and comfortable. Headphones lose clamping force with time due to plastic frame. PortabilitySmart Hinge and protective casing Rotating hinge and soft pouch Inward fold hinge and soft pouch with padding Pros & Cons Multi-angle hinge allows for better fit to head, flattening and foldability. High quality hard casing allows for protection. Rotating hinge allows better fit but only allow for flattening for storage. Soft casing does not provide protection for frequent travelers. One-way hinge for foldability and storage. Soft casing with padding allows for some protection.

M Series Product Training 2013.04 COMPANY CONFIDENTIAL P10 M500 Vs the competition KEF M500B&W P5Beats Solo HD Sound quality & signature 40mm neodymium driver with CCAW voice coil tuned by KEF 40mm neodymium driver tuned by B&W 40mm neodymium driver tuned by Dr. Dre Pros and cons KEF Sound. High clarity in high and mid tones and a balanced level of bass. Due to the usage of headphones, bass is slightly more emphasized. One of the best headphones in terms of bass extension currently on market, but mid range is very warm (almost muffled). Hated by reviewers. High level of colouration with emphasis in mid bass and no bass extension when they are selling bass.

M Series Product Training 2013.04 COMPANY CONFIDENTIAL P14 M200 Vs the competition KEF M200B&W C5Shure SE315 Sound quality & signature Dual dynamic driver (DDD) technology with bass port Single dynamic driverSingle balanced armature driver with bass port Pros and cons KEF Sound. High clarity in high and balanced mid tones and tight bass. Contrary to the raving review of P5, C5 were perceived as overly emphasized bass with low bass being too forward and highest treble rolling off. Well balanced sound with emphasis on the mid tones and minimal bass. Shure emphasize on selling SE315 as good earphones for vocals. Some comments that the highs and mids are too forward. ErgonomicsSecure FitSecure loopReinforced looping cable Pros and cons Secure fit allows for good fitting on ear even though the earphones is bigger than normal. Seen as an ergonomic flaw since it hurts the outer ear from prolonged listening. Securing earphone in the ear with the loop around ear however it is not easy to insert the earphones.

M Series Product Training 2013.04 COMPANY CONFIDENTIAL P16 Performance Notes M500 compatible devices The plain cable supports audio playback on computers, mobile phones and music players with 3.5mm Aux out. The cable with in-line remote control supports audio playback on most devices. Remote control and mic function works on most Apple devices, and limited remote control and mic functions for Android devices depending on your device. M200 compatible devices M200 supports audio playback on most mobile devices. Remote control and mic function works on most Apple devices, and limited remote control and mic functions for Android devices depending on your device. Third party cable adapters could be used to disable all the remote and mic functions on the rare occasion that you would like to use the earphones with a non-Apple music player and some old version smartphones. Compatible Devices:
17
M Series Product Training 2013.04 COMPANY CONFIDENTIAL P17 For M200, a 3.5mm cable adapter (not included) may be required to convert the cable to function as a normal 3.5mm aux cable to be used for some non- Apple music players or older versions of smartphones. For M500, try using the plain 3.5mm aux cable that came with your headphones when you are listening to music on non-Apple devices. Performance Notes
18
M Series Product Training 2013.04 COMPANY CONFIDENTIAL P18 Generic Android compatible remote controls only have a single button to toggle between play/pause and answer and end calls. Hence, the volume control and skip track functions on KEF’s in-line remote will NOT work on devices other than Apple products. Play/pause and microphone function should work on Android phones running 4.1.2 and above, however, due to a large number of manufacturers offering Android phones, KEF cannot guarantee that all functions will work with all Android phones. 23
M Series Product Training 2013.04 COMPANY CONFIDENTIAL P23 Headphone Forms Circumaural (full size headphones) these headphones have circular or ellipsoid earpads that completely surround the ear. Supra-aural These headphones have pads that press against the ears. Earbud are fitted directly in the outer ear, facing but not inserted in the ear canal. In-ear canalphones/IEM are intended to be partially inserted into the ear canal to create an air-tight seal
24
M Series Product Training 2013.04 COMPANY CONFIDENTIAL P24 Open Back / Closed Back Open Back headphones which have the back of the earcups open. This leaks more sound out of the headphone and also lets more ambient sounds into the headphone gives a more natural or speaker-like sound and more spacious "soundscape" - the perception of distance from the source. Primarily indoor use. Closed Back Headphone which have the back of the earcups closed. Prevent sound leak and block ambient noise. have a smaller soundscape, giving the wearer a perception that the sound is coming from within the head. Confine but more bass Primarily mobile use. 25
M Series Product Training 2013.04 COMPANY CONFIDENTIAL P25 Noise Isolation Vs Noise Cancelling Noise Isolation attenuating noise getting into the ear by forming a tight acoustic seal. Noise Cancelling reduce unwanted ambient sounds by means of active noise control(ANC). This involves using one or more microphones placed near the ear, and electronic circuitry which uses the microphone signal to generate an "antinoise" signal. When the antinoise signal is produced by the speaker driver in the headphone, destructive interference cancels out the ambient noise as heard within the enclosed volume of the headphone.
26
M Series Product Training 2013.04 COMPANY CONFIDENTIAL P26 Dynamic (Moving Coil) Most common transducer unit in both on-ear and in-ear product Widest frequency response range Simple technology, comparatively cheap Used in M500 and M200. Transducer Type
27
M Series Product Training 2013.04 COMPANY CONFIDENTIAL P27 Transducer Type Balance Armature Increasingly become popular among in-ear products Small size Comparatively narrow frequency response range More expensive than dynamic, mostly used in high-end product. Developed initially to be used in hearing aid.
28
M Series Product Training 2013.04 COMPANY CONFIDENTIAL P28 Transducer Type Electrostatic Similar mechanism as recording microphone, technically more accurate Wide frequency response Low distortion Expensive (used only in high-end market, e.g. Stax)
