The Winter Olympic games take place every four years. The first Winter Olympics were in France in 1924.

Some of the original sports were alpine skiing, cross-country skiing, figure skating, ice hockey, ski jumping and speed skating.

The USA has hosted the Games four times. France has hosted three times. Austria, Canada, Italy, Japan, Norway and Switzerland have hosted the Games twice.

In 2014 Sochi will be the first Russian city to host the Winter Olympics. Sochi is an attractive city located on the Black sea coast of North Caucasus.

The population is over 415 000 people. It was founded in 1838. Sochi is the longest city in Russia. The distance is 145 kilometers.

The Olympics will be in district of Sochi Krasnaya Polyana it is 39 km from the Black sea. Freestyle skiing, Alpine skiing, Snowboarding, Cross- country skiing will take place in Krasnaya Polyana. At the same time Figure skating, ice hockey, speed skating will be in the ice-rink in Sochi.
