3 VIRTUE: HOPE VICE: DESPAIR 1. Definition: - Greek elpis, Hope, is described as the confidence while waiting with the expectation of obtaining that which is desired. Hope is “putting confidence in” or “taking refuge in” Definition of Hope Properties of Hope: Freedom, Assurance, Contentment, Peace, Longsuffering, Perseverance, Trust, and Confidence Vice: Despair [Cynicism, Unbelief, Doubt] “We have this hope as an anchor of the soul, firm and secure.” – Hebrews 6:19

4 Romans 5:3-5 – “We also exult in our tribulations, knowing that tribulation brings about perseverance; and perseverance proven character; and proven character hope; and hope does not disappoint” Hope: Breaking The Chains of Despair Romans 8:24-25 – For in hope we have been saved, but hope that is seen is not hope…But if we hope for what we do not see, with perseverance we wait eagerly for it”
