6 Baby Boom  During Great Depression and WWII, people did not want to have children  When soldiers returned home from WWII and Korea, they got married and had children  Baby Boom-increase in birth rate between 1946- 1964 79 million “boomers” born during this time

9 Levittown, New York  Levittown N.Y.: one of the earliest mass produced suburbs  A community of homes constructed quickly and efficiently that were sold at a lower price.  “Common People” could afford to buy homes due to the economic explosion.  Families rushed to buy homes in the suburbs (outside the city) Reasons for Suburbia: ○ Escape crime & other problems of cities; and better life for kids. ○ Home loans for veterans made more affordable
