1 Calculate the Area Hannah Dytam Lincoln College

2 Topic Calculate the Area Aims  To calculate the area, perimeter and volume of ojects in the room  To convert measurements between the metric system  To use the formulae efficiently Level Entry Level 3, Level 1 and Level 2 Method An icebreaker at the beginning of a Maths Lesson, the students are to measure the area, perimeter and volume of objects in the classroom. The students like to be able to move around and measure real items in the room. The formulae seemed more real using the real items. Equipment  Hand-out  Pens  Calculators (if to be used), Paper to work out measurement, tape measure, ruler Duration > 30 Minutes

3 Calculating the Area, Perimeter and Volume Using the information from your ‘Movers’ chart, calculate the area, perimeter and volume of each item listed ItemLengthWidthDepth Table Freezer Cabinet Shelf Box Cupboard Heater Bookshelf Toaster Sink Bin Flipchart
