8 CHECKLIST Authority Chairs Do I know and understand the relevance of core values? How do I and my colleagues promote them? How is the organisation promoting the core values? E.G Are they evident in reports coming before Committee? How do I check out what staff experience is like? And industrial relations?

9 CHECKLIST Authority Chairs Are all staff on my radar? Am I accessible? Do I know what is happening in the organisation – positive and otherwise. How do I respond? How is my time spent on Fire Service business? Do all activities add value, e.g. Station visits?

10 CHECKLIST Chief Fire Officer How do I promote core values? Am I accessible to all staff? How do I respond to challenge/criticism/concerns? Do I understand the value of diversity? What role(s) do I see women,BME and disabled employees undertaking in my organisation? Do I distinguish between uniformed and non- uniformed employees and their representative bodies and if so, why?

11 CHECKLIST Chief Fire Officer Do I know what industrial relations are like in my organisation and how do I promote the protocol? What would I like people to say about this organisation outside of work? And when they leave? Am I supporting change and those at the sharp end delivering it? Would I recommend this organisation as an employer to those I care for in all roles and at all levels?

12 CHECKLIST HR Managers How do I promote the core values through my role? How are they mainstreamed in procedures? What contribution does each member of staff make? What value do they add to service delivery? Are conditions aligned to status or roles? What is the gender pay gap within my organisation and what am I doing to close it? What are my objectives while I am working here? Am I prepared to challenge to bring about change? Do I value the role of trade unions and how do I demonstrate that?

13 CHECKLIST For UNISON Core Values –How is UNISON promoting them at branch level? Are our most active members broadly representative of our wider membership? Are we taking a full part in running the organisation? Are we challenging bad HR practice but also acknowledging good practise?
