3 What is RTI 2 ? RTI STANDS FOR RESPONSE TO INSTRUCTION AND INTERVENTION AND REFERS TO A SET OF IDEAS FOCUSED ON HOW TO HELP ALL CHILDREN BE SUCCESSFUL IN SCHOOL.

4 What are the goals of RTI 2 ? For the school to provide effective teaching that fits the needs of each student. For the school to make sure the classroom environment is the best possible for every student. To help all students meet grade level standards. To “add to” general education instruction, not “replace” with something different. To provide interventions (“help”) as a natural, ongoing part of education that doesn’t wait until the student is struggling.

5 What are the 3 Tiers of RTI 2 ? Tier 1 – High quality teaching and behavior support for all students in the school Tier 2 – Additional interventions for students who need more help on specific skills Tier 3 – Interventions designed to address the unique needs of an individual student

Talk with your child’s teacher Ask for regular progress reports in the areas of difficulty Celebrate when progress is made; ask questions when there is little or no progress Make a list of specific questions to ask about your child’s progress.

9 What Is Title I? Title I is a K-12 program that provides additional academic support and learning opportunities for students at schools with high percentages of socioeconomically disadvantaged children. The program is intended to help ensure that all students meet state academic standards.

10 Title I Funds [Federal Funds] Schools receive Title I funds within KCS if 50% or more of students are eligible for free/reduced lunch. Kennedy has 82% of students receiving free/reduced lunch.

11 Goals of Title I Increase academic achievement Provide direct instructional support to students. Provide professional development for teachers. Promote parent education and involvement.

12 Parent Rights Ask for meetings and trainings. Review the school’s achievement data. Review the parent involvement plan. Review and modify the Title I Parent Involvement Policy and Home/School Compact.

14 School Achievement Data Kennedy will analyze T-Cap scores, DRA results, Writing Assessment, district-wide benchmark testing, as well as review AYP and status. Kennedy will use this data to align curriculum to state academic standards. Kennedy will adjust instructional practices based on the findings of the assessment data.

15 Home/School Compact The Home/School Compact describes the responsibilities of the school, the parent, and the student for improved student achievement. Developed in collaboration among parents, teachers and students. Distributed as part of the Title I Parent Involvement Policy.
