2 Aims: Understand what a balanced diet consists of Know what different food types there are and the nutrients they contain Understand the problems that could be caused by an imbalanced diet

3 What do you already know… Use your white boards to write down as much information on diet as you can

4 Nutrients Using your books (page 50/51) List all 7 nutrients Give one benefit of having them in your diet Give one food type you can get them from

6 A balanced diet Dietary considerations No single food can provide all the nutrients the body needs so it is important to eat a variety of foods There are 5 main food groups How many portions should we have of these food groups a day?

8 Failing to maintain a balanced diet Could lead to an imbalance or deficiency Malnutrition – physical weakness resulting from insufficient food or an unbalanced diet Obesity - being extremely fat or overweight which results in health problems Anorexia – eating disorder occurring primarily in girls and women, related to fear of gaining weight, self starvation and distorted body image

9 Your Diet Using your new found knowledge, assess your own diet. List 3 positives and 3 negatives. FOOD HOSPITAL

10 Homework - Questions For next week, create 4 questions for a partner to complete. They must be on A4 lined paper There must be a 1,2,3 and 4 mark question
