2 1. adjunct (noun) a subordinate; an assistant  Before his dismissal Dr. Jones had been an adjunct professor at the university.  Synonyms: addition, appendage, attachment

3 2. admonish (verb) to warn; to caution The lifeguard admonished the small children about the high waves and undertow before allowing them to go near the water. Synonyms: advise, notify, warn

4 3. advocate (verb) to recommend; to speak in favor of I would advocate a telephone survey to find if there is backing for the proposed changes. Synonyms: prescribe, support Antonyms: oppose, contest

5 4. affiliate (noun) an associate; a partner He denied that he was an affiliate of any organized crime figure. Synonyms: member, employee

6 5. affliction (noun) Anything causing great suffering The Holocaust was an affliction for millions of Jews. Synonyms: trouble, pain, distress Antonyms: relief, aid

12 Vocabulary Homework Assignment Write a sentence with each vocabulary word. Provide context clues so that readers unfamiliar with the meaning of the word could figure out the definition. Due Thursday (this assignment applies to each vocabulary lesson each week)
