8 Working On-Line (BG) 8 E-Mail: Exercises These exercise explore using your existing email accounts. If you have a Yahoo account (YourNickname@yahoo.com), use the first set of instructions.. If you have a Gmail account (YourNickname@gmail.com), use the second set of instructions.YourNickname@yahoo.comYourNickname@gmail.com

9 Working On-Line (BG) 9 E-Mail: Exercise 1a for Yahoo 1) Open browser to mail.yahoo.com 2) Log in to your account 3) Look at the tools on the top- compose, delete, … 4) Look at the folders on the left- Inbox, Drafts, Sent, Spam, Trash, Folders 5) Click on compose, address a short message to bear2.71828@yahoo.com, and click send. 6) Click on Sent folder, and observe the set of mails you have sent, including the one you just sent. 7) Return to the In-box.

10 Working On-Line (BG) 10 E-Mail: Exercise 1b for Yahoo 1. When a message comes in from the instructor, notice that it is bold (indicating not yet read). Click on it. 2. Return to the in-box 3. Notice that the mail you read is no longer bold 4. Click on that message again. Notice how the buttons above the message change slightly to give different options. Find the “Move email” button, and click & select New Folder. You could create a folder for keeping emails from the PRC class (but don’t) 5. Click Cancel. 6. Return to the in-box

11 Working On-Line (BG) 11 E-Mail: Exercise 1c for Yahoo 1. Click on the box to the left of the message you just read. Click the “Forward” button. In the “TO” field, type bear2.71828@yahoo.com bear2.71828@yahoo.com 2. In the big text area on the lower part of the page, above “Forwarded Message”, type a short message & hit send 3. (If needed) Click the Done button to return to your inbox. 4. In the search box portion of the yahoo mail page, type bear and click the Search Mail button. See the message from your Sent folder? 5. Find the sign out button, and click it to sign out

See the messages from your In-box and Sent folder? 2. Click on the message you forwarded 3. Click on the button next to Reply, and select Reply to All 4. Fill in your email address in the BCC box 5. Add a note of text & hit Send 6. Return to your In-box, and select message you just sent 7. Notice that your address is not in the “To” list, but it was still sent to you. 8. Find the sign out button, and click it to sign out

13 Working On-Line (BG) 13 E-Mail: Exercise 1a for Google 1) Open browser to gmail.com & log in to account 2) Look at the tools on the left- contacts, folders, compose mail button, “offers” 3) Click on a mail that you have received & look at the buttons above the message- back to inbox arrow, Archive, Spam, Delete. Find Reply button 4) Click on compose, address a short message to bear2.71828@gmail.com, and click send. 5) Click on Sent Mail, and observe the set of mails you have sent, including the one you just sent. 6) Return to the In-box.

In the search box portion of the google mail page, type bear and select the Search Mail option. See the messages from your In-box and Sent and Archive 3. Click on the message you just archived 4. Click the More button, then “Forward”. In the “TO” field, type bear2.71828@gmail.com bear2.71828@gmail.com 5. Click “Add BCC” and put your email address in the BCC box 6. Add a note of text & hit Send 7. Return to your inbox
