How To Listen To Your Children About Your Divorce Divorce is certainly a tough phase for you and your children. You should carefully listen to your children what they have to say regarding your divorce.

Give Children Your Full Attention Give full attention to your children. Turn off the television and anything else that may cause disturbance. Make eye-to-eye contact with your children while they are talking to you. If you feel you might get distracted, tell your children to talk at another time because what they have to say is important for you.

Listen To Them Without Trying To Change Their Feelings You should listen to your children without adding anything in their thoughts. By fixing, judging and criticizing to what they are saying may hurt their feelings. You should listen to your children uninterruptedly. Failing to do so might hurt their self esteem and their self confidence.

Try To Understand Your Children’s Feelings You should always try to understand your children feelings. You can empathise with them by saying words like, “I know how you are feeling”. You should work with your children to come up with a solution considering their thoughts.

Get Help If Necessary If you think you can’t cope up with your child’s feelings, then consider getting professional help. If you feel your child does not want to talk to you about your divorce, professional help should be considered. A mediator always works well to sort out issues like these, as he as a neutral and an unbiased person.
