PYRAMIDS OF NUMBER GRASS FOX RABBITS 1000 GRASS PLANTS 50 RABBITS 7 FOXES Pyramids of number show the number of each organism in a food chain as a horizontal bar. The bigger the bar, the more there are of that organism. The producer is always on the bottom.
2
Draw out a pyramid of numbers for the following food chain. 600 OAK LEAVES 100 CATERPILLARS 10 SHREWS 1 OWL See if you can draw it out on graph paper, using 1cm to represent 10 of each organism. (keep each bar 1cm high).

PYRAMIDS OF BIOMASS BIOMASS is the amount of living material. Pyramids of biomass show the amount of living material (in grams) at each stage in a food chain. These pyramids are always pyramid shaped. The bigger the biomass, the bigger the bar. GRASS FOX RABBITS 1000 grass plants each with a mass of 0.1Kg = ? 50 rabbits each with a mass of 1Kg = ? 7 foxes, each with a mass of 5Kg = ? 100Kg 50Kg 35Kg
5
Draw a pyramid of biomass for the following food chains. 1) 5 cabbages 100 caterpillars 3 thrushes 1 kestrel 2)10 water weeds 200 insect larvae 5 fish 1 otter The cabbages each have a mass of 500g, caterpillars 4g, thrush 100g, kestrel 250g, water weed 250g, larvae 10g, fish 300g, otter 1000g.
