They were only allowed in public when accompanied by men to attend funerals and festivals. Their education was also more limited than men of Athens. In Sparta women had much more freedom and public lives due to the absence of men who were on constant military campaigns Direct democracy is where every able citizen takes in active role in creating and voting of laws. Representative democracy is where people elect officials to create and vote on laws for them.
