2. Chapter 4 – “There were small boys and big boys, fathers and grandfathers. Perhaps a few uncles too. And some people who live on their own on everbody’s road but don’t seem to have any relatives at all. They were everyone.(Pg. 30, Para 1) -“Where are all the girls? And the mothers?” “Perhaps they live in a different part.” (Pg. 30, Para 4) -“Who would build such nasty-looking place?” Pg. 32, Para 4 -“This must be the countryside” (Pg. 33, Para 3) -All of these text evidences are in the perspective of Maria and Bruno about the concentration camp.(they aren’t sure what it is though.) 3. Chapter 12 -”All I know is this, Before we came here, I lived with my mother and father and my brother Josef in a small flat above the store where Papa makes his watches. Every morning we ate our breakfast together at 7 o’clock and while we went to school, Papa mended the new watches that people brought to him and made new ones too. I had a beautiful watch that he gave me but I don’t have it anymore. It had a golden face and I wound it up every night before I went to sleep and it always told me the right time.” (Pg. 126, Para 1) “What happened to it?” “The soldiers of course.” (Pg. 126, Para 2) -”And every time we left the house, she told us to wear one of these armbands” (Pg. 127, Para 2) -”The train ride was horrible. There were too many of us in the carriages for one thing. There was no air to breathe. 4. Chapter 4 – Bruno and Maria don’t exactly understand what is going on outside of his window (concentration camp) but they are trying to figure it out. Chapter 12- Shmuel and Bruno are on opposite sides of the fence they aren’t sure why. Their conversation makes them suspicious because their perspective of whats happening is different. MY INTERPRETATION OF THE EVIDENCE

5. About 6 million Jews were murdered by the Nazis of Germany. German authorities, such as Hitler, targeted other groups besides the Jews because of their “racial inferiority” meaning that the Nazis were racist towards the groups The Jews were inferiors to the racial community, meaning that they were in ranked lower to those who were Nazis and the Nazis were racist towards the Jews. Other groups were persecuted on political, ideological and behavioral grounds INFORMATION ABOUT THE HOLOCAUST

Bruno’s father is a soldier of Hitler’s Nazi regime Shmuel is a Jew Bruno is related to a Nazi, his father, and doesn’t realize it so he becomes friends with Shmuel, a Jew, who doesn’t even realize why he’s on the other side of the fence. He also doesn’t know that Bruno’s father is one of those people involved with the persecution of European Jews. In one of the chapters in the book, Shmuel’s grandpa is killed and Shmuel doesn’t even know that his grandpa is dead. So Bruno digs a hole under the fence and puts on the “striped pajamas,” which is what Bruno thought the Jewish people wear for clothing. Then the two friends try to find Shmuel’s grandpa, and Bruno and Shmuel are soon shoved into a gas chamber along with all the other Jews. The room soon is dead silent. They all died, including Shmuel and Bruno. I think its one of the saddest parts of the novel because they were innocent kids who happened to be best friends. Though they were from different sides of the fence, meaning Shmuel was a Jew and Bruno was not, they still were friends and did not judge each other by their race or even who they were.
