1 Introduction to SNC2D WHMIS & HHPS SYMBOLS

2 What is WHMIS? Stands for Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System. An internationally recognized system that describes hazards associated with certain materials. Uses symbols found on supplier labels that identify the risks associated with each material, first aid when necessary and how to properly handle the material.

9 HHPS Symbols Corrosive Material Explosive Material
This product will burn skin or eyes on contact. Throat and stomach if swallowed. Explosive Material This container can explode if it is heated or punctured.

10 HHPS Symbols Cont’d Flammable Material Poisonous Material
This product, or its fumes, will catch fire easily if exposed to heat, flames or sparks. Poisonous Material Licking, eating, drinking or sometimes smelling this product is likely to cause illness or death.

11 HHPS Severity Levels Has three levels of severity based on the border of the symbol: Caution is the least severe and danger is the most severe.
