3  Fine wool sheep comprise approximately 50 percent of the worlds sheep population  Medium-wool sheep comprise of about 15 percent of the worlds sheep population  Coarse-wool sheep comprise of about 25 percent of the worlds sheep population  Hair sheep comprise about 10 percent of the world's sheep population  Medium, Coarse and Hair sheep are either dual purpose or meat purely breeds making it about a 50:50 ratio of wool to meat sheep in the U.S.
