4 Rome’s Early Kings Romulus is first King of Rome (753 BCE) ◦ After that, Rome had Etruscans Kings  They built huge temples and Rome’s first sewer  Last King was overthrown in 509 BCE

5 After Roman Monarchy The nobles set up a Republic ◦ A government where people elect leaders to govern them  Each leader was limited to one year per term

7 Government During War Rome is lead by a dictator during times of difficult wars ◦ Rulers with absolute power ◦ One important dictator was Cincinnatus

8 Roman Society Class system divided into two ◦ Plebeians  Common People ◦ Patricians  Powerful Nobles who controlled all government

9 Activity: You are a Plebeian or Patrician Read the pg 299 Table Write a one paragraph argument on why you should have more power in government (Plebeians) or why your group should stay in power (Patricians) In 8 Minutes, debate the other side in your group.
