Judges: A few Good men and Woman Chapter 8

“To Know Christ and Make Him Known.”

Judges 2:7 (NIV) 7 The people served the Lord throughout the lifetime of Joshua and of the elders who outlived him and who had seen all the great things the Lord had done for Israel. – start of chapter 8 in The Story

Judges 2:8–9 (NIV) 8 Joshua son of Nun, the servant of the Lord, died at the age of a hundred and ten. 9 And they buried him in the land of his inheritance, at Timnath Heres in the hill country of Ephraim, north of Mount Gaash.

Judges 2:10 (NIV) 10 After that whole generation had been gathered to their ancestors, another generation grew up who knew neither the Lord nor what he had done for Israel.

Judges 2:11 (NIV) 11 Then the Israelites did evil in the eyes of the Lord and served the Baals.

2 Corinthians 4:4 (NIV) 4 The god of this age has blinded the minds of unbelievers, so that they cannot see the light of the gospel that displays the glory of Christ, who is the image of God.

Judges 2:12 (NIV) 12 They forsook the Lord, the God of their ancestors, who had brought them out of Egypt. --Middle of page 102 in The Story

Judges 2:12 (NIV) 12 They forsook the Lord, the God of their ancestors, who had brought them out of Egypt.

Have you told your children and grandchildren what God has done for you?

Unless you grasp the depths of your own depravity from which Christ saved you, you will never be able to understand the heights of the majesty of your salvation.

Luke 7:40–41 (NASB95) 40 And Jesus answered him, “Simon, I have something to say to you.” And he replied, “Say it, Teacher.” 41 “A moneylender had two debtors: one owed five hundred denarii, and the other fifty.

Luke 7:42–43 (NASB95) 42 “When they were unable to repay, he graciously forgave them both. So which of them will love him more?” 43 Simon answered and said, “I suppose the one whom he forgave more.” And He said to him, “You have judged correctly.”

The book of Judges boldly declares that the children of Joshua and the Elders of Israel never grasped the depths from which God rescued them.

Judges 2:12 (NIV) 12 …They followed and worshiped various gods of the peoples around them.

John 4:35 (NIV) 35 Don’t you have a saying, ‘It’s still four months until harvest’? I tell you, open your eyes and look at the fields! They are ripe for harvest.

Luke 19:9–10 (NIV) 9 Jesus said to him, “Today salvation has come to this house, because this man, too, is a son of Abraham. 10 For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost.”

Hebrews 12:5 (NIV) 5 And have you completely forgotten this word of encouragement that addresses you as a father addresses his son? It says, “My son, do not make light of the Lord’s discipline, and do not lose heart when he rebukes you,

God can use, very imperfect people, who know him and know what he has done to pass the baton of faith and knowledge of what God has done to lead them and rescue the next generation.

Judges 2:16 (NIV) 16 Then the Lord raised up judges, who saved them out of the hands of these raiders. –page 104 The Story top

Judges 2:17 (NIV) 17 Yet they would not listen to their judges but prostituted themselves to other gods and worshiped them. They quickly turned from the ways of their ancestors, who had been obedient to the Lord’s commands.

Judges 2:18 (NIV) 18 Whenever the Lord raised up a judge for them, he was with the judge and saved them out of the hands of their enemies as long as the judge lived; for the Lord relented because of their groaning under those who oppressed and afflicted them.

God: Is there some thing in my life that I am doing that You don’t want me doing?

Deuteronomy 8:5 (NIV) 5 Know then in your heart that as a man disciplines his son, so the Lord your God disciplines you.

Job 5:17 (NIV) 17 “Blessed is the one whom God corrects; so do not despise the discipline of the Almighty.

Hebrews 12:7 (NIV) 7 Endure hardship as discipline; God is treating you as his children. For what children are not disciplined by their father?

Pray this: Discipline me Lord.

Pray with me: “Lord, I’m tired of living life as my own God
Pray with me: “Lord, I’m tired of living life as my own God. I’m tired of deciding for myself what is right and wrong. I want your right, and I want your life. Please, forgive my sin, and give me Jesus. I want Jesus to be my Lord and my savior.”

“Lord, there are things I am doing that I know are harmful to me that you don’t want me doing. Now I ask you, discipline me until they are driven out of me. I do not despise your discipline Lord; I welcome it as a sign of your love.”

Lord, help me pass the baton to the next generation.
