LAJAI KIRKPATRICK’S PORTFOLIO “A LIE GETS HALFWAY AROUND THE WORLD BEFORE THE TRUTH HAS A CHANCE TO GET ITS PANTS ON.” -Winston Churchill

Research Paper Issue ■Career Choice: Radio Broadcasting ■Issue: Society’s trusts in broadcasters and reporters are declining due to inaccurate information on some topics.

Pros ■Sources that reinforce the views about why society should respect and take heed to information shared by reporters and radio broadcaster is because they provide updated information about local news and events that occur nationwide. ■For example, social media is a great way to reach people and educate them on topics/issues involving today’s generation. It’s quick, it’s easy, and its effect. ■“Reporters are the foot soldiers for newspapers, magazines, and television.”(Ferguson 183.)

Social media is a great way to educate people. ■Reporters and radio broadcasters are great people that can provide you with factual information that makes you stop, listen, and converse about matters that are important to you.

Stepping stones to getting information to society about current events. ■“Reporters are the foot soldiers for newspapers, magazines, and television.”(Ferguson 183.) ■They can get information to a wide variety of people from different backgrounds and audiences and connect through comments which validate people’s feelings about the topic.

My Thesis ■I believe mass communicators have a responsibility to deliver factual, engaging, and enlightening information to the people of our society and that people shouldn’t judge or get mad at broadcasters for making a mistake.

Counterarguments ■While society loves to hear interesting information sometimes it can be inaccurate making society second guess news, newspapers, or reporters.

Rebuttal ■The media understands how to give information about topics and can influence people’s friends and family. ■People influenced by the of popularity through friends who advertise engagement of topics given can lead to opinion based conversations through comments communicated through social media makes people believe that the factual information is now false.

Reporters educate through news given. ■My argument: Educating about morals and social religions can help formulate opinions. “ The media has a huge impact on society in shaping the public opinion.” said M.A. Mughal (thedailyjournalist, 2014).

Counterargument ■“23 percent of the public found factual errors in the news stories of their daily paper at least once a week”. ■While it's true that humans make mistakes, this is a prime example of society focusing more on the mistakes at hand instead of the information presented.

Rebuttal ■Broadcasters can make an opinionated statement about a situation but, sometimes the audience watching will likely change their thoughts based on a different view.

Reporters and radio broadcasters are important in mass communications and media ■Technology plays a major role in reporting information through radio broadcasting because it advances society allowing people to be more interested and engaged. ■Callers are more interested and engaged when they feel the radio broadcaster or new reporter expresses the truth about a certain topic in a consist manner.

Rebuttal ■People believe more of what they see and hear on televisions rather than what they hear on the radio because one can call and make statements. ■The problem is that once the radio host makes their opinions first society sometimes reconsider because you have a different look on the situation at hand.

Interview Proof

Conclusion ■Broadcasters jobs are to inform people in a proper manner without offending or sharing personal beliefs about negative situations. Media outlets today often times reflect a problem existing in the community or nationwide to inform people of realistic situations in the world and if a mistake is made its to be taken lightly because no one is perfect and most likely they just want to help not hurt.
