1 Contagion effect within various types of systems
dr Sławomir Wyciślak 1

2 Why contagion effect ? In 1896, the French sociologist Le Bon used the term contagion, observing the behaviour of crowd. Currently, the concept of contagion effect is used to model the propagation of financial crises, viral marketing, the supply chain, an external shock for organisation.

3 Contagion attributes Contagion can be attributed properties: immediacy, violence, escalation of connection, capacity to multiply by replication in numerous situations.

4 Methodology Develop an understanding of the operational picture to gain insight into the problem. Utilize systems tools to determine potential solutions to the problem. I Bring solutions into the as-is space to determine their feasibility within the system’s operational constraints and desired end state. 3 2 1

5 The problem of control of contagion
Self organizing and centralization The conditions in which self-organization is desirable, and conditions where centralization can be justified; The advantages and drawbacks of self-organization and centralization amidst contagion

6 Self organization /centralization
Identification of systems amidst contagion Control of contagion Sources of contagion Contagiousness Self organization /centralization Patterns of behaviour The complex systems
