1 SDHS Writing Initiative

2 Purpose: To encourage students to think critically and analytically about a given topic. To create school-wide awareness and focus about the importance of the writing assessment in making AYP – Writing Assessment given in FEBRUARY!

3 Lesson Materials Needed: Writing prompts –Teacher will provide Notebook paper (students) Pen or pencil

4 Accountability for Students If students choose not write during writing time, they will be required to complete writing assignment during ISS.

6 Weekly Writing Prompt J.F.K once said, “If we are strong our strength will speak for itself. If we are weal our words will be of no help.” Do you agree with J.F.K.’s view that our actions speak louder than our words? Or that “talking a tough game” doesn’t mean we have personal strength of character? Why or why not? In well-developed paragraphs, use specific reasons and examples to support your position.

10 Additional Student Directions: Journals should be at least a page in length (front only) for all questions combined or the equivalent of 20 minutes of writing. Students should be actively writing for 20 minutes In your heading include your name and date of the assignment.
