3 Cuneiform Cuneiform is a form of written Cuneiform is a form of written language that is used by ancient Mesopotamians. It was written by Scribes, or ancient writers, who recorded down what he/she was told to write down by his/her hirer. Scribes also read to their hirer, because it is important to read and record imperial laws and/or orders from the king to his underlings. Some stories, like The Epic of Gilgamesh is written in Cuneiform and was told by Mesopotamians throughout the generations before it was actually recorded on 1300 B.C. Hammurabi’s code of law was the first recorded system of law, and it was written in Cuneiform.

4 Cuneiform Today, we also use a written language called the Alphabet. In the past, people use a different written language called Cuneiform. However, almost every single person in the world can write the Alphabet, and there was no need for Scribes. Also, people today uses pen and/or pencil to write on paper, which is made from trees. People in the past uses reed, a type of plant that grows on the riverbanks to write on dried clay tablets.

Hammurabi’s Code is the best preserved ancient legal document. Some large cities in Babylonia, where Hammurabi ruled had over 200,000 people. A king is high in the society pyramid.
