21 SOURCE APPROVAL TO FACTORY MANUFACTURED ITEM BITUMEN:- PENETRATION GRADE  80/00, 60/70, 30/40 VISCOSITY GRADE  BITUMEN IS TO BE SELECTED IN THE VISCOSITY GRADE LIKE VG-10, VG-20, VG-30 & VG-40  SELECT BITUMEN FOR APPROVED REFINERY ONLY FOR UNIFORMITY IN QUALITY.  OBTAIN MANUFACTURER’S TEST CERTIFICATE.  CONDUCT INDEPENDENT QUALITY TEST AT BEGINNING OR ANY CHANGE IN THE SOURCE.

24 BITUMEN EMULSION THIS MAY BE ANIONIC- BITUMEN GLOBULES ARE – VELY CLAD. CATIONIC- BIT GLOBULES ARE + VELY CHANGED. DEPENDING UPON THE TIME PERIOD FOR BITUMEN PARTICLES COAGULATE. THE EMULSION CAN BE CLASSIFIED AS: RAPID SETTING(RS) MEDIUM SETTING(MS) SLOW SETTING (SS) WE GENERALLY USE CATIONIC BITUMEN EMULSION IN ROAD WORK CONFIRMING TO IS-8887.

TEST TO BE CONDUCTED AS PER IS-2720.  PLASTIC LIMIT  PLASTICITY INDEX  FEE SWELLING INDEX (NOT EXCEEDS 50%)  OMC  MDD  CBR(4 DAYS WATER SOAKED)  LIQUID LIMIT  ACCEPTANCE CRITERIA AS PER CL.4.4 OF IRC-36-2010.  GRAIN SIZE ANALYSIS

27  SELECTION OF MATERIAL  COLLECTION IN STOCK PILE  DESIGN OF JOB MIX FORMULA  TESTING OF PHYSICAL PROPERTIES AND DESIGN TO BE DONE BY THIRD PART LABORATORY & SUBMITTED FOR APPROVAL BEFORE COMMENCEMENT OF WORK.  GRADING TO BE CONFIRMED AFTER DRY MIXING (AT STOCK PILE)  AFTER LAYING & COMPACTION,FIELD DENSITY & DEGREE OF COMPACTION TO BE ACHIEVED IN EACH LAYER.  CROSS FALL & CAMBER AT FINAL LAYER. QA IN GSB CONSTRUCTION

35  SAMPLING OF MATERIAL FROM PLANT AND STOCK PILE  MIX DESIGN FOR DBM AND DESIGN MIX FOR BM TO BE CONDUCTED FROM A THIRD PARTS LAB.  GRADING OF AGGREGATE, BITUMEN CONTENT OF MIX IS ASCERTAINED.  HOT MIX PLANT MUST SATISFY THE STANDARD SPECIFICATION.  PHYSICAL PREPARATION OF BITUMEN TO BE TESTED BEFORE MIX  BITUMEN HEATING TEMP MUST BE RECORDED  CALIBRATION OF HM PLAN TO BE DONE BEFORE COMMENCEMENT QA IN BM & DBM (Contd.)

36  AGGREGATE GRADING – SAMPLE COLLECTED FROM GATHERING BIN MUST BE CHECKED.  MIX TEMP AFTER THE PRODUCTION MUST BE CHECKED AT PLANT  AFTER CONFORMATION OF ABOVE TESTS THE MIX MAY BE DESPATCHED  AT SITE LAYING TEMP, ROLLING TEMP CROSS FALL/CAMBER, THICKNESS AND BITUMEN CONTENT MUST BE CHECKED.  PAVING BY HYDRAULIC SENSOR PAVER IS PREFERRED.  DEGREE OF COMPACTION TESTING TO BE DONE BY CORE CUTTER. Confirmation of structural strength by Benkle nam – Beam Deflection test. Auditing of geometrics of road. Road safety Audit. Provision of way side amenities. Highway patrolling system O & M annual contract system. Road side and median arboriculture. Road signages & protection works.
