Algeria (forthcoming) Some examples for the PER course

MLA 2 test scores and per capita income, Algeria and other countries (lower secondary)

Algeria: Use of resources in lower secondary schools – findings from the analysis of the MLA data set The graph plots teachers and number of students in each lower secondary school in the sample (10 schools that were outliers or had missing values were eliminated). In general, the number of teachers increases with students but about 25 percent of the variation in number of teachers is not explained by the number of students.

Algeria – Lower Secondary Schools Optimal Size The unit salary cost declines as school size increases to 300- 400 student, but there are not many economies of scale when schools are beyond this size. If it important to make lower secondary schools more accessible, and the smaller schools do not have higher capital costs, it makes sense to build smaller schools.

Algeria – 8 th grade average math score and class size The plot of the class average test score in mathematics against the size of the class shows negligible correlation. Class sizes range from about 16 to 50.
