NITROGEN CYCLE COMPREHENSION CHECK Prepared by: Mrs. Lucia Traya 7 Grade Science WAMS
3
Nitrogen (N2) is the most abundant element or Gas in our earth’s atmosphere (air). Our atmosphere is composed of about 78% Nitrogen, 21% Oxygen, and about 1% other elements or gases. All organisms plants and animals, including humans need nitrogen as their source of protein in order to grow and live. Nitrogen fixing bacteria converts nitrogen from the decayed bodies of plants and animals, as well as the wastes (feces) from animals and humans into ammonia (NH3) and nitrate (NO3) which then become the source of proteins, the nutrients that enable plants and animals to grow and survive. Nitrogen stored in the air is returned to the soil through precipitation or when it rains.
4
From the diagram below which gases on earth’s atmosphere is the most abundant? Justify your answer.
6
Modified True or False: Fix the statement if it is wrong. All organisms plants and animals, including humans do not need Nitrogen in order to live.
7
FALSE! All organisms need NITROGEN to grow and live as it is a source of protein.
8
Modified True of False: If the statement is true justify your answer, and fix it or make it correct if it does not give the correct idea. Plants and animals including humans need Nitrogen gas to survive, and we can just breathe the gas from the air during.
9
FALSE: NITROGEN HAS TO BE FIXED OR CONVERTED BY NITROGEN FIXING BACTERIA INTO AMMONIA AND NITRATE WHICH WILL TURN INTO PROTEIN DURING DIGESTION PROCESS.
10
Which of these organisms can fix or convert nitrogen gas in the air so that it can be used by all organisms? A.Sunflower plant B.A deer C.Eagle D.Bacteria or decomposers
12
Which of these specific type of bacteria can convert Nitrogen gas into useable form that all organisms can use it as nutrients in their body? F. Nitrogen fixing bacteria G. Oxygen fixing bacteria H. Carbon fixing bacteria I. Hydrogen fixing bacteria
13
F. Nitrogen fixing bacteria
14
Organisms need Nitrogen to survive. How do we and other organisms get Nitrogen? A.By breathing it in from the air B.By photosynthesis process C.By respiration process D.By eating plants and animals
16
Plants and animals including humans help in the cycling of matter on earth. How do plants and animals including humans help in the cycle of Nitrogen matter? A.Through respiration process B.Through decomposition process of plants and animals C.Through the solid wastes(feces) that animals and humans produced D.Both B and C
17
Both B and C B. Through decomposition process of plants and animals C. Through the solid wastes(feces) that animals and humans produced
18
Nitrogen fixing bacteria convert nitrogen into Ammonia and Nitrate which will be form into which of these nutrients when taken in by an Organism’s body? A.Carbohydrates B.Glucose C.Proteins D.Lactose
